- Examines major issues and policy challenges in U.S.-European Union (EU) trade relations regarding efforts to avoid "big ticket" trade disputes concerning steel or the World Trade Organization ruling on tax breaks for U.S. exporters; longstanding disputes involving aerospace production subsidies and beef hormones; different public concerns over new technologies and new industries, including biotechnology, electronic commerce, and related data privacy concerns; challenges to fostering cooperative climate for acquisitions and mergers; efforts to strengthen the multilateral trading system; and accommodating foreign policy sanctions that impact trade, focusing on the Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act of 1996 and the Iran and Libya Sanctions Act.
