Reviews current meat and poultry inspection authority and requirements and challenges to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) rule. Examines Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) administration of HACCP regulatory system, FSIS funding issues, legislative and administrative actions related to HACCP and FSIS bioterrorism preparedness, and other selected issues, including "mad cow" disease and humane slaughter.
