Examines background, content, and sunset provisions of recent amendments to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 that are set to expire in 2009. Focuses on Section 6001(a) of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Protection Act, and Sections 206 and 215 of the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act. Reviews proposed legislation in the 111th Congress to extend sunset dates for some or all of the amendments.
