Provides brief overview of Federal statutes addressing fraud and abuse in federally funded health care programs, including Medicare and Medicaid. Includes examples of prohibited conduct and civil and criminal penalties for violation; and covers the False Claims Act, the anti-kickback statute, the Stark law, and additional program-related penalties and exclusions. Addresses some of the amendments made to these statutes by P.L. 111-148, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
