- Summary
- Mick Waters drops in to Fernwood School, a Nottingham comprehensive, with the help of Year 10 pupils Freddie and Mariam. They go to assembly, discuss the role of school prefects and Mick enjoys racing model cars with young engineers who have designed award winning cars for the Formula Schools competition. They attend a Learn to Learn session with Year 7 and spend time in a Year 8 French lesson finding out some reasons for the unusually high take up of languages at the school. Educational visits and school trips are important, and Mick learns about the Fernwood Peace Prize, based on a trip to the Beth Shalom Holocaust Memorial Centre, Newark. After their visit, pupils get the chance to make a creative response to the events of the holocaust - a song, a film, a poem, a sculpture. Finally in the science department he watches a heart dissection with a BTec class and attends a chemistry lesson led by the head of science, who has an unusual method of rewarding a good answer!
