Publication data from colophon. De viris illustribus urbis Romae is also sometimes attributed to Sextus Aurelius Victor, Pliny the Younger, or Cornelius Nepos. Historiated title page border. Title page printed in black and red. Publisher's device on last printed page. Rare Books copy has circulation card for Mt. St. Alphonsus Library inside back cover; also label pasted on title page. This copy is an uncommon schoolbook edition, and it shows evidence of readership and assiduous translation. The first five biographies were extensively annotated in Latin by an early hand, with both interlinear and shoulder notes. It's a very nice example of a surviving, utilized classroom copy of a classic Classical work.
