- Summary:
- A new robust regulator has been shown to exist. This new control has smaller order than Davison's robust regulator and better insensitivity than the standard proportional feedback controllers. The new regulator may be considered as a classical PI controller that has been extended to regulate many variables. However, the difference between this extension and Davison's regulator is that the new regulator obtains some integration of error signals from the dynamics of the plant. A design algorithm is presented for the new reduced-order robust regulator. Recognizing that the new reduced-order regulator occupies the void between simple proportional-feedback regulators and complex full-order robust regulators, the design proceeds from low-order to high-order controllers. At each step, it will be seen that new disturbances and perturbations are rejected at the expense of increased regulator order.
