Inclusive charged pion and kaon spectra from pp annihilation at rest have been measured with the PS183 magnetic spectrometer. at LEAR. The experiment had excellent momentum resolution ((delta)p/p (TURN) 1%) and statistics ((TURN)5M events). Precision measurements. were made of branching ratios for several two-meson final states, including (pi)('(+OR-))(pi)('(-OR+)), (pi)('(+OR-))(rho)('(-OR+)), (pi)('(+OR-))(delta)('(-OR+)), (pi)('(+OR-))B('(-OR+)), (pi)('(+OR-))A(,2)('(-OR+)), (rho)('0)(omega), K('(+OR-))K('(-OR+)), and. K('(+OR-))K*('(-OR+)). Mass and width measurements of several resonances were also made. Interest in these two-meson channels and others stem from recent theoretical work on quark models of the annihilation process. In addition, a search in the pion and kaon spectrum was done for structures indicative of narrow baryonium states. Experiment results are compared with past and present data, as well as theoretical predictions.
