- Between 19 August 1869 and 11 May 1870, Ziegler records amounts paid to named workmen for various tasks in building the gate house for the Waynesburg, Greencastle and Mercersburg turnpike. In the back of the notebook, Ziegler has each workman sign that he has been paid for his specified labors. Also, includes twenty cancelled two-cent U.S. internal revenue stamps.

- George W. Ziegler was the treasurer of the Waynesburg, Greencastle and Mercersburg Turnpike Road Company. The turnpike most likely ran on the current path of state road 16 in Franklin County, Pa.
