- Summary:
- A photocatalytic method has been presented to carry out one-electron reduction of C₆₀ and C₇₀ in 50/50 (v/v) benzene/ethanol. The fullerene reduction was carried out in colloidal TiO₂ suspension using UV excitation. The charge transfer between the excited TiO₂ semiconductor colloid and fullerene molecule occurs with a quantum efficiency of 13% for C₇₀ and 24% for C₆₀. Laser flash photolysis measurements have been carried out to elucidate the mechanism of photocatalytic reduction.
