- At the Agricultural College of Pennsylvania, Evan Williams received letters from his brothers William and Thomas; and his wife, Margaret, received letters from her brothers Griffith and Isaac Lytle and cousin G. D. McCormick while all the brothers served in the Union army during the Civil War in Virginia. They mention the battles of Bristoe Station, Bull Run, Chancellorsville, Cold Harbor, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, Trevilian Station, The Wilderness, Yorktown, and Gettysburg, Pa. Units mentioned include the 49th, 51st, and 148th Pennsylvania volunteers. Other correspondents include Daniel Webster Baker, Joseph Holdeman, and J. M. Williams. Post-war letters from D. F. Taylor discuss the oil industry in western Pennsylvania. Also, includes a tax receipt allowing William Williams to vote in 1864, Evan Williams's 1864 draft notice, loose envelopes, and a souvenir folder of the U.S. Army Cantonment, Camp Lee, Petersburg, Va.
