- The purpose of this plan is to describe the Research and Development activities associated with the SSC (Superconducting Super Collider) Phase I program. This Phase I program will provide a comprehensive conceptual design report and is geared to accomplish specific research and development objectives that are required prior to initiation of Construction (Phase II). The overall program objectives are given in Section 2. The plan for assuring that these objectives are attained is described in the SSC Management Plan. An overall description of the planned. program is provided in Section 5. This Phase I program follows an extensive Reference Design Study conducted for the purpose of assessing technical feasibility and probable costs.
