The authors search for the decays B⁻ → φK⁻γ and {bar B}° → φ{bar K}°γ in a data sample of 228 million B{bar B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. They measure the branching fraction Β(B⁻ → φK⁻γ) = (3.5 ± 0.6 ± 0.4) x 10⁻⁶ and set an upper limit Β({bar B}° → φ{bar K}°γ) < 2.7 x 10⁻⁶ at the 90% confidence level. They also measure the direct CP asymmetry in B⁻ → φK⁻γ, Α{sub CP} = (-26 ± 14 ± 5)%. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.
