A versatile sample holder for an x-ray diffractometer is described. It provides double containment while in operation on the diffractometer and triple containment while being transported from a hot cell or dry box to the diffractometer and back to a disposal area. This cell is suitable for fairly high alpha activity or mild beta-gamma activity. It is also good for materials that react with air or light. Either solid or liquid samples can be used.
