Summary
This series takes a chronological and conceptual approach in presenting the philosophical origins, drafting, and interpretation of the U.S. Constitution and its effect on American society. The first program describes the controversial efforts to bring prayer into the public schools and discusses the conflict between the free exercise clause and the establishment clause of the First Amendment. Outlines several Supreme Court cases on the establishment of religion, including Cantwell v. Connecticut, Engel v. Vitale, and Wallace v. Jeffree.
