Arvo Pärt, who was born in Estonia in 1935, has succeeded in bringing sacred music back to a broader audience, and away from the confines of the church service, more than almost any other contemporary composer.
The 1st work for three choirs, prepared piano, string orchestra, and tape; the 2nd for men's choir and string orchestra, originally for tenor or baritone and string quartet; the 3rd for mixed choir and string orchestra, originally with organ accompaniment; the 4th is a cantata, for mixed choir a capella.
