The Latin commentaries are a revision and enlargement of the Italian "Discorsi" published originally with the 1544 edition of the five books of Mattioli's Italian translation under title: Libri cinque della historia & materia medicinale, and with the 1548 edition of the six books titled II Dioscoride dell'eccellente dottor medico m.p. Andrea Matthioli.
