Hershey Medical Center beginning with discussions in 1948, its affiliation with Pennsylvania State University ("the only large educational institution in the Commonwealth without a medical school"), funding from a transfer of $50 million from the Milton Hershey School (for the care and education of orphan boys) to the M. S. Hershey Foundation, and the successful petition to the Orphans' Court for permission to transfer the funds.
