Includes listings of top-ranking students in the military departments at universities and colleges with instructors detailed from the Army, by institution; and honor graduates of the Artillery School and the U.S. Infantry and Cavalry School.
Reports present listings of officers, with rank or position, by departmental agency or military unit. Most reports also include birthplace of officers; listings of Military Academy staff and distinguished cadets, military posts and arsenals, and personnel changes; and data on Army components. Beginning in 1840, reports generally include data on militia forces by State, and index; and in 1843, data on pay and allowances, by rank or position.
