The National Museum of African American History and Culture, which opened in September 2016, is the realization of the dream, centuries-long, of creating a public monument to the vital role of African Americans have played in shaping our nation. Dream A World Anew uses objects and stories from this museum, unprecedented, to take readers on a journey through the African American experience. This book presents the sweeping history of Black America: the path from slavery to freedom; the struggle to define and realize that freedom during Reconstruction and The Civil Rights movement; and the swell of major changes since 1968, socially, politically, and economically.
