- The collection contains twenty original drawings by George Izenour, mostly charcoal, but also including pen and ink, crayon, and watercolor, to be used as projection slides for theatrical backdrops for popular and classical plays produced at the WPA Federal Theatre Project in Los Angeles, California, in the 1930s.
The plays include four by Henrik Ibsen (Brand, A doll's house, Ghosts, When we dead awaken), William Shakespeare (Hamlet, Macbeth), Eugene O'Neill (Emperor Jones), Bernard Shaw (Caesar and Cleopatra), Clemence Dane (Will Shakespeare), Walter Ferris (Death takes a holiday), Leonid Andreyev (Samson in chains), and Elmer Rice (Judgment day). Also, includes drawings for musical productions by Richard Strauss (Elektra), Joseph Haydn (The creation), and L'après Midi d'une Faune, a generic projection, and two unlabeled drawings. - Subject(s)

- George C. Izenour (1912-2007) was an electronic stage lighting researcher, inventor, teacher, and consultant. Early in his career he worked as a lighting designer with Hallie Flanagan's WPA Federal Theatre Project in Los Angeles, California.
