This 1548 ed. is a re-impression of Galharde's 1542 ed., with some variations in the spelling and a few alterations in the text. The woodcuts are the same, except the border on the title page, which has become famous through its use in the 1st ed. of the Lusiadas of 1572 (See comments in King Manuel).
Title with ornamental initial "R" in woodcut architectural border, at the top the pelican feeding its young, at the bottom the emblem of the Order of St. James, a sword encircled by a crown of laurel leaves.
Woodcut arms of Dom Jorge de Lancastre, Duke of Coimbra on fol. [2] verso; woodcut ill. of the Saint battling the Moors, fol. [4] verso, and of the Apostle resting in a boat on wheels on verso of unnumbered fol. [xxviij]= e6 (listed in King Manuel as fol. 1 vo. of the second pt.). Second pt.: four woodcut ill. (listed in King Manuel (page 128) only for the 1542 ed.), on fol. xxxvj verso, [xxxvij] recto (seals of the Order) and xxxviij verso, [xxxix] recto (banners of the Order); ornamental initials.
Text in black letter type, 27 lines; side notes, no catch words.
