Transmitted to William Jones, esq., acting secretary of the treasury, by Tench Coxe, June 21, 1813; transmitted by the acting secretary of the Treasury to the President, James Madison, Jan. 13, 1814, "in pursuance of the resolution of Congress, of the 19th of March, 1812, directing the secretary of the Treasury to employ a person to digest, and reduce to such form as shall be most conducive to the interests of the United States, a statement of the number, nature, extent, situation, and value of the arts and manufactures of the United States, &c."; transmitted by the President to the Senate, Jan. 15, 1814; and laid before the House Jan. 17, 1814, cf. Journals of the Senate and of the House, of even dates; also, American state papers. [Finance, v. 2] Washington, Gales and Seaton, 1832, no. 407, p. 666-812 (including the letters of transmittal and a print of the document, with title, "Digest of manufactures").

Added t.-p. (without imprint) A statement of the arts and manufactures of the United States of America, exhibiting I. A collection of facts, evincing their benefactions to agriculture, commerce, navigation and the fisheries, and their subserviency to the public defence, with an indication of certain existing modes of conducting them, peculiarly important to the United States: II. A collection of additional facts, tending to show the practical foundation, actual progress, condition and establishment of the American arts and manufactures, and their connexion with the wealth and strength of the United States. Together with one series of tables of the several branches of American manufactures, exhibiting them by states, territories and districts, so far as they were returned in the reports of the marshals and of the secretaries of the territories, and their respective assistants, in the autumn of the year 1810; together with similar returns of certain doubtful goods, productions of the soil, and agricultural stock, so far as they have been reported: and another series of tables of the several branches of American manufactures, exhibiting them in every county in the union, so far as they were returned in the reports of the marshall, and of the secretaries of the territories and their respective assistants, in the autumn of the year 1810: which tables were prepared in execution of an instruction of Albert Gallatin, esquire, secretary of the Treasury, given by him in obedience to a resolution of Congress of the 19th day of March, 1812.
The tables have title, "tabular statements of the several branches of American manufactures, exhibiting them I. By states, territories and districts, II. By counties, cities and towns ... Philadelphia, Printed by A. Cornman junr. 1813." Each part has also special t.-p. (without imprint) beginning, "A series of tables." In pt. II of the tables (pt. IV of the whole work) p. 44 is incorrectly numbered "(49)" and a leaf, unnumbered, the recto blank, which belongs before p. 45, is inserted before p. 49 (sig. N.). - Reproduction Note
