- The collection contains two circular letters soliciting funds to alleviate starvation and suffering in Ireland. The first printed letter is addressed to William T. Bishop, Hummelstown, Dauphin County, Pa., and is signed by a committee of citizens of Harrisburg, Pa., 23 Feb. 1847, requesting that he organize a committee in his township to raise produce or money to be sent to the starving people in Ireland.
The second three-page printed letter from the Central Relief Committee of the Society of Friends (Dublin, Ireland), 19 June 1848, includes a statement of receipt and distribution of donations, 1846-1848, endorsed (on the verso of the third page) by Allen Cuthbert, 7 Nov. 1848, Mifflin County, Pa.
