The collection consists of a letter addressed to Dear sir, 15 Feb. 1880, on Hartford Courant letterhead. Warner notes that Washington Irving died in 1783, not 1785 as rerported.

Charles Dudley Warner was an American essayist, novelist, and newspaperman. He is perhaps best remembered for a series of biographies of authors, and for co-authoring The gilded age with fellow Hartford resident Mark Twain.
