Whether it is in a job interview, a presentation or in collaborations with colleagues with differing technical backgrounds, effectively conveying your ideas and contributions is at least as important as the content. Daniel Goleman speaks to the importance of emotional intelligence being a key driver of success and advancement. Why does this matter so much? If you dive right into technical details without providing a broader context and motivation for the problem, then the people with whom you are communicating will not appreciate the contribution. If you talk only about your ideas at a high level with insufficient detail, then the weight of your contributions might be undervalued or misinterpreted.
