This volume describes the preparations for and defeat of the St. Clair expedition against the Indigenous Peoples of North America. Sargent copied the first part of the volume from an orderly book kept by a non-commissioned officer, but the entries beginning October 30 are his own. Also included is a drawing by Sargent of the army's troop formation.
