- Description: Diary transcription kept during January - December 1918 and containing intermittent entries covering his service as a private with the 9th Squadron Wellington Mounted Rifles Regiment (New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade, Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division) in Palestine, including his initial training, operations in the Jordan Valley interspersed with rest periods (February - March and June), further training and patrols during August - September, advancing against the retreating Turks (September - October), garrison duties in the Jordan Valley, and his return to Egypt in December 1918, with comments on off duty recreations and sightseeing, living conditions, enemy attacks and casualties; also included are 4 Cairo train tickets and 40 photographs mainly of tourist sites in Palestine and military camps.
