- Consists of an eight-page poem entitled Luther at Worms, designated for the Dec. issue of New Monthly, attributed to W. Dearden. The poem may be in Dearden's writing, but it is unsigned. It describes Martin Luther's defiance of the Catholic Church, which signalled the start of the Protestant Reformation, with its social, economic, and political ramifications.

- William Dearden was a poet and educator based in Halifax. He was principal of the Warley Grammar School, and known in the Halifax artist's circle, which included Branwell Brönte and sculptor Joseph Bentley Leyland. His poetry was often imaginative, and his poem, The star seer in five cantos, has been an inspiration to science fiction writers. He sometimes wrote under the pseudonym William Oakendale.
