What a lift! It was as good as a nip of sherry (which I have given up since I'm dieting & which I usually drink while I'm paying bills as it dullens the pain). Would I like for you to speak to my students?? You should ask?? Might as well ask me if I'd like to weigh 50 lbs, less without dieting or if I'd like more money or if I'd like a lover (I put that last because, if I could have the first 2 I'd get the 3rd!). / Look, even if you were coming to N.O. & couldn't come out to school, I'd still be thhrilled to know that you're returning. (Ha! Fat chance you'd have of not coming to talk to us. Diet or no--I still out-weigh you! Sob!). / Whatever day & time of the day suits me. Aim for prime hrs. when more students are on campus & I'll engage the big room in the Union. / Are you going to mid-Winter in Chicago? I'll be there 23-26 at the Palmer House. If you aren't, then drop me a line with suggested hr. (tween 10-2 are best) & I'll reserve rm & get the whole affair publicized. / I'm gratified to see you have some new titles coming out in '72. I'm your most ardent fan, ya' know. I hope some 'fortune' goes along with all this 'fame'! / You've made me so happy, Honey-pot, & I look forward to hearing from you--hopefully in Chicago. / With love, / [signed] Colleen"; -- ALSO INCLUDED IN ENVELOPE: rolodex card with Salley's name and address; obituary article: "Remembering Coleen Salley" from School Library Journal (November 2008); 2 copies of "In Loving Memory of Coleen Salley" (cartoon illustration by Janet Stevens from Epossumondas published by Harcourt Children's Books as obituary) clipped from School Library Journal (November 2008) and Publisher's Weekly (October 13, 2008); clipped printout of obituary by Susan Larson (September 19, 2008); printout of email shared by Salley's family (September 11, 2008) with final update on Salley's condition shortly after diagnosis with Creutzfeldt-Kakob disease (CJD), along with color printouts (8.5" x 11") of three digital photos attached to email: the photos show Coleen in hospice bed, closeup, and pictured with two of her children.
