Summary
Description: Fort Douaumont was recaptured for the French, on 24 October 1916, by the Regiment of Colonial Infantry of Morocco, after the Germans had withdrawn from the area. The Germans in the Fort had been pounded for many days by two 16 inch French railway guns emplaced at Baleycourt, to the southwest of Verdun.
