Description: British ML 2in Mortar (infantry version with spade). In action, the Mortar was hand-held at the required elevation angle with the base spade in contact with the ground, and bombs muzzle-loaded and trigger-fired. The trigger-firing meant that the mortar could be fired horizontally which proved useful in house-clearing and close fighting. It fired a variety of bombs, including the HE type which weighed 2.25lb up to a maximum range of 500 yards.
