- Summary
- Description: A view of three Royal Navy ships just off the coast of the Gallipoli peninsular, including the Royal Navy cruiser HMS Bacchante, which is in the centre of the composition. The ships are bombarding the Turkish positions in an attempt to identify gun positions, defences and occupied trenches. Smoke rises from parts of the coastline and there are splashes in the water from artillery fire. There are handwritten annotations regarding the events within the sketch itself.
