- Spent time at Billings General Hospital; Ashford General Hospital; and the 198th General Hospital; Lieutenant; US Army Nurse Corps; Mrs. Blatchford joined the US Army Nurse Cadet Corps as a way to support herself during the Great Depression; once she graduated she was sent to Ashford General Hospital where she worked with patients who had spinal cord injuries; she recalled working with the Rangers and members of the 1st Infantry Division who fought in North Africa and Italy; while at Ashford General Hospital she met General Eisenhower while he was wandering around looking for a cup of coffee; She has a very a interesting story concerning this meeting; she has a picture of Gen. Wainwright's Medal of Honor ceremony; she worked there until the war ended then transferred to France to assist the men who were wounded so severely that they needed more time to heal before returning to the United States. 198th General Hospital 1.
