Nickname is Zeke; Chief Aviation Hydraulic Mechanic (CAMMH ); Whittaker joined the USS Enterprise (CV6) on its return trip to Pearl Harbor after the 7 December 1941 attack; he recalls with great detail watching the Doolittle Raiders take off from the USS Hornet; he feared that the Japanese were going to retaliate and destroy the fleet he was in; he also recalls the aftermath of the Battle of Midway and the actions at Guadalcanal and in the Solomon Islands.
