Summary
Since 1936, the most popular alloy used for heat-resistant castings has been of the HH type (cast 26 per cent chromium-12 per cent nickel). The estimated production of the HH type in relation to that of other popular heat-resistant alloys for the year 1949 is shown in Table I. With 42.5 per cent of the total production of heat-resistant castings being of the HH type (cast 26Cr-12Ni), it is natural that the properties and characteristics of this alloy have been investigated in great detail. The Alloy Casting Institute, through the individual efforts of its members and through its extensive sponsored research program, has pioneered a better understanding of the alloy.
