- The subject of the present paper is the question of what laboratory information is needed to predict the remaining strength and life of composite material systems, and how that information should be used and interpreted. Special attention is given to situations involving cyclic and impact loading, and the influence of time-dependent behavior. Recent results of predictions and observations are cited in support of the premise that a critical element approach can be used as a framework for the formulation of such a representation.
