- Present-day trends in use of steel for automobile parts have been influenced by a number of factors including: (a) Advance in heat treating equipment and methods of treating. (b) Development of experimental testing in engineering departments to prove materials and treatments, thus facilitating the selection of steel. (c) Improved quality and uniformity of steel resulting from grain size and hardenability testing. (d) Increased knowledge of how fatitigue failures occur. (e) An open mind on past customs and practices.
