- To measure the strength of ceramic tubes the C- and O-ring tests have been proposed. In the analysis of these tests, assumptions have been made, which can not always be fulfilled in practice. With computer simulations we investigated the stress distribution in C- and O-rings. We found that for C- and O-rings with a length to wall- thickness ratio of 6 the plane stress assumption fails and that axial stresses are not negligible. Also we investigated the influence of the load angle on the stress distribution in an O-ring test.
