- Pressuremeter tests in cohesive soils are generally analysed to give undrained strength parameters. Differences in pressuremeter test techniques have been shown to affect test results and derived parameters, and it has been established that these variations are due to the combined time-dependent effects of local consolidation and deviatoric creep. Various sizes of pressuremeter are used offshore. The influence of consolidation and creep on the results of tests carried out using pressuremeters with different initial diameters has been examined using a numerical analysis. This has shown that the initial size of the expanding cavity can have a significant effect on the test results. The numerical simulations have also shown that the influence of test technique cannot simply be expressed as the ¿̐ưtime to failure¿̐ư; the way in which the test is performed also affects the results.
