- The process of tailoring an alloy to an optimum composition and microstructure is illustrated by the substitution of Ti-6Al-4V alloy for 13Cr steel in the transition row blading of low-pressure fossil steam turbines. Through control of the processing parameters, the microstructure and texture of Ti-6Al-4V alloy may be controlled to produce fine-grained equiaxed or bimodal microstructures of constant texture.
