They are armored vehicles with heavy axle drives, that can go at a fast speed on the road and also need not avoid cross-country travel. They are equipped with machine guns, sometimes armor-piercing guns. A number are equipped with two-way radios. They generally go up against the enemy in groups, as reconnaissance units.
