- Description: Predominantly letters from Mary Chave, Nacogdoches, Texas, Army Administration School No. 1, Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College (now Stephen F. Austin State University) to her parents in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Chave describes her teaching duties as a company commander and often mentions her friendship with two men, Bruce Stoll and (boyfriend) Thomas Anthony. Includes graduation program from the Eleventh Officer Candidate Class of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, Fort Des Moines, Iowa, 9 January 1943; letter from her father to his wife, describing Chave’s graduation ceremony and fellow officers.;Correspondence from the service of Captain Mary Adele Chave Manley, who was a member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Letters are lively and discuss in depth life in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. Other frequent topics include Chave's military work as a WAC officer; her practice of Christian Science; and budgets and pay. Nicknames for Chave's sister are "Bud" and "Snooks."
