- Summary
- Description: Letters from Capt. Al Burford, United States and Italy, to his wife Jean Burford, Pasadena, California. Burford was an attorney who served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. The letters themselves are not always dated. It can be determined from his writing and stationery that he was attached to the 11th Airborne Division at Camp Mackall, North Carolina. He describes being assigned office work and field problems, as well as what was probably basic training. Next, Burford was briefly stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana. In 1944, he attended JAG School in Ann Arbor, Michigan and graduated as an officer in July. He was then sent overseas and served at Cividale del Friuli, Italy attached to the 10th Mountain Division. Throughout his letters, he not only mentions daily life, but also the legal cases and court martials in which he was involved.;Collection of letters and newspaper clippings from Captain Albert Burford to his wife, Jean. Bulk of the correspondence spans the years 1943-1945. Some letters contain ephemera inserts; telegrams found throughout. Clippings mainly come from the Los Angeles Times and reference the war in Italy.
