IN A QUALITY CONSCIOUS AND COST COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT, proficiency and statistical control of measurement processes used for product certification are expected between suppliers and customers. Statistical control occurs when the measurement process is operated with stable and quantifiable accuracy and precision. Likewise, proficiency occurs when the measurement process accuracy and precision performance metrics are reasonable when compared to similar processes taht are operated with an industry-agreed upon standard protocol. ASTM test methods are example of such standardized protocols.
