Summary

The town of Thiaroye-sur-Mer in Senegal is not the peaceful fishermen's village it used to be. It is from here that people first organized illegal boat departures from the small African nation to Europe, and now as fish supplies dwindle and leave families hungry, many fishermen want to leave. Thirty year old Modou is one of these fishermen who have attempted to leave his home shores twice, each time risking his life on treacherous vessels, and like all the others, he knows that as soon as he has enough money he'll try his luck again.
