Appeared first in 1833(?) as v.4 of the author's Cours d'antiquités monumentales, published in 6 vols. with atlas, Caen-Paris, 1831-43. In 1837 v.4 and 5 of that work were published in one volume (with 30 plates) under title: Histoire de l'architecture religieuse, civile et militaire du moyen-âge (quoted in Bibliographie de la France, 1837, no.4615). A third edition containing the "Architecture religieuse" only appeared in 1841 with title: L'histoire sommaire de l'architecture religieuse (one volume in 8o and atlas in 4o oblong, quoted in Bibliographie de la France, 1842, no.1636 under title: Cours d'antiquités monumentales ... 4. partie. Moyen âge: architecture religieuse) A résumé of this work appeared with title: Abécédaire ou rudiment d'archéologie ... Ouvrage approuvé par l'Institut des provinces de France ... Paris [etc.] 1850; in it, as in the present edition, numerous full-page illustrations take the place of the plates in former editions. cf. Préface de l'éditeur sinhgned F. le Blanc-Hardel.
