- This case study describes how the method of interpretative phenomenological analysis was used in a research project aimed to evaluate the new trainee and Expert by Experience Buddy System on the Coventry and Warwick Clinical Psychology Doctorate. In this case study, we focus on the methodological steps underlying the data collection (sampling, ethical approval, and interviews), the analysis (difference on descriptive, linguistic, and conceptual comments and identification and labeling of emergent themes), and the case report. Furthermore, we illustrate the method with one of the identified superordinate themes--Experiencing connection--and discuss the implications of participatory engagement for the trainees. Finally, we provide some guidelines on how the method of interpretative phenomenological analysis can be used to examine the experiences of any group discussion based on the Buddy Group system run by the Coventry and Warwick Clinical Psychology Doctorate Programme.
