- This case study discusses how the social enterprise Hand in Hand is developing market linkages to scale up the rice value chain in Tamil Nadu, southern India. Hand in Hand, which specializes in microfinance, women's empowerment, enterprise development, and sustainable development, is working on creating an inclusive rice value chain. Students need to consider the main decision point of the case study, which is how Hand in Hand can create a socially inclusive and economically sustainable rice value chain for small-scale producers and other stakeholders in southern India. In the case study, students also learn about the challenges faced by Hand in Hand in developing market linkages for diverse value chain actors such as farmers, millers, wholesalers, and retailers.
