- Summary
- This ambitious documentary series combines character-led storytelling with meticulous journalism. From a woman who will die without the most expensive drug on the market, to an alcoholic in need of a liver transplant, the programme follows a group of people with a range of conditions seeking treatment from the UK's free healthcare system. The programme reveals the cost of each patient's treatment and explores the complex ethical and financial dilemmas faced by clinicians as demand rises but budgets do not. Not everyone can get the medical treatment they would like, so this programme poses the question: How would you choose to allocate spending in healthcare, if you knew the full emotional, social and medical context of each treatment?
